Green Initiatives

Let's Talk About Sustainability

Our impact on the natural resources of Whistler is something that's at the forefront of every decision that we make at Nita, and we're constantly striving to be more and more eco-conscious. Our green practices help protect the environment by encouraging sustainability in a variety of ways such as recycling, composting, and chemical-free cleaning supplies. On this page, we'd love to share with you what we're doing to promote sustainability, and how you can help us to keep British Columbia (and the world) beautiful.

Rooftop Solar Project

2025 marks a huge step forwards in our sustainability efforts at Nita Lake Lodge. In partnership with Shift Solar, a leader in renewable energy solutions, this initiative harnesses the power of the sun to reduce our carbon footprint and generate clean, renewable energy on-site. By embracing solar technology, we’re not only lowering our environmental impact but also contributing to a greener future for Whistler and beyond. This project aligns with our mission to protect the natural beauty that surrounds us while enhancing the guest experience through responsible, forward-thinking practices.

Geothermal Energy

Our geothermal energy system harnesses the natural thermal energy stored beneath the earth’s surface, allowing us to provide efficient cooling in the summer and cozy warmth in the winter. Thanks to our unique lakeside location and underground reservoirs, we’re able to reduce our carbon footprint while offering year-round comfort in an environmentally responsible way.

Rooftop Garden

Our rooftop garden supplies our restaurants with hyper-local ingredients, adding a unique touch of Whistler-grown flavour to every dish. From our house-made honey and lavender ice cream to the seasonal creations at The Den, these homegrown elements not only elevate our menus—but also reflect our commitment to sustainable, low-impact dining.

Sustainably-sourced ingredients

All of our dining outlets proudly source ingredients from local BC farms, supporting the region’s rich agricultural heritage while reducing our environmental footprint. By partnering with nearby producers and embracing forward-thinking methods like vertical farming and hydroponics, we’re able to minimize water use, reduce chemical inputs, and deliver fresh, flavourful meals with a lighter impact on the planet.

Comprehensive Recycling Program

We actively recycle paper, cardboard, beverage containers, and coffee pods, reducing waste and conserving resources. Retired bed linens are upcycled into locally made dog beds, giving them a second life, while used guest soaps are collected and repurposed through our partnership with Soap for Hope, supporting hygiene initiatives in communities in need. Every small action helps us make a bigger impact—for our planet and for people.

Compostable Containers

In partnership with SuperSave, we divert as much organic waste as possible from landfills through dedicated composting efforts. To further support this initiative, all containers in our food outlets are recyclable—and the majority are fully compostable—helping us create a cleaner, greener Whistler with every meal served.
